Tuesday Update on Peter

It has been about three days since Peter’s tracheotomy and he is still pretty deep in his own coma, just making minor movements and probably nothing intentional (although time will tell). The doctors have given him a medicine today that is supposed to help stimulate brain activity. They are being pretty aggressive about trying to wake him up. As far as I know, there have still been no major changes since he has received the medicine to help wake him up. We are just trying to be patient.

Pete’s fever has gone down some, but they still haven’t located the source of the infection. The RT has also been slowly weaning Peter off of the ventilator and his own breathing seems to be improving!

Another question to be faced is what to do after Peter can breathe on his own if he hasn’t woken up from the coma. Rehab facilities won’t take him until he is awake, tracking, and following simple commands. He will probably move to another floor in the hospital for a while between ICU and rehab, but no definite plans have been made.

Here are the things to pray for:

1) The pneumonia/infection/fever Peter has. It would be a wonderful blessing for these to go away.

2) Continue to pray for Peter’s full recovery and the restoration of his brain functions.

3) Pray that Peter’s breathing will continue to improve.

4) Pray for dad and mom’s wisdom. There are always decisions to be made when a family member is in the hospital.

5) Pray for the family’s health and rest. Also, for our patience. We miss Pete so much!

6) Pray for Peter’s peace and healing so that he can come out of the coma.

Depending on how much progress Peter makes in a day, these updates could be spread out a bit farther. If that happens, please continue to pray over the things in the previous update and anything else the Lord lays on your heart.

For the family,

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Isaiah 43:1b-3a

I have asked our choir at Grace Community Church to pray for your family and try to post updates on our choir blog. I also asked John MacArthur to pray for you and your family. My heart goes out to you and your family. You remain in my prayers.
