An Update on Peter’s Birthday

This evening we had a time of family celebration around Peter’s bedside. On family birthdays we always take time to affirm something about the birthday person, so we all took turns touching Pete and telling him what we appreciated about him. Then we ended in a good time of prayer and singing.

Today Peter has been breathing on his own again. The RT will continue to put him on the ventilator at night in order not to overwork Pete, but he is doing really well during the day. Pete’s fever has finally come down again, and his pneumonia is clearing up as well. We are so grateful!

This evening Peter was officially moved out of ICU to another floor! This means that he doesn’t need the intensive care the ICU provides, and that Peter is much more stable in general.

There is still not much responsiveness coming from Peter, especially compared to a week ago. Sometimes his eyes are partially open, but his eyes stare blankly and it’s obvious he isn’t conscious.

We have begun doing some physical therapy with Pete and establishing a routine of reading to him and letting him hear things he has memorized to help stimulate brain activity.

Here are the things you can pray for:

1) Pray for his continued recovery and healing. Pray that he will regain consciousness in the days ahead.

2) Pray for the new nursing staff and doctors that will be taking care of him in his new room. Pray that we will be able to establish good relationships with them and have good witnessing opportunities.

3) Pray that Peter’s infections will continue to go away.

4) Pray for our continued health and stamina in the days ahead.

5) Pray for our patience. We miss Pete and want him to wake up!

As a side note to those who have been asking how to help with the medical bills, we have finally set up a way for you to do this through the bank, and also paypal.

The paypal account is: prayforpeter@gmail.com

If you would like to send a check, please make it payable to “Peter Helms Health Care Account” and send to the following address:
One Crowley Plaza
P.O. Box 605
Crowley, TX 76036-0605

Thank you all for your prayers, and messages of support even from afar.

For the family,

“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40: 28b-31

Praise God for a good report!!! I found out about Peter’s accident through NCFCA (I remember seeing Peter at the National tournament this past June). Please know that our family and church have been lifting up both Peter and your family in constant prayer. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
    Through Jesus,

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.’ (John 14:27)
