Notes from Peter’s Bible

Sunday morning in Peter’s Bible again (NKJ), from the book of Jeremiah, with his comments following the underlined verses:

“‘They do not plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless; Yet they prosper, And the right of the needy they do not defend.  Shall I not punish them for these things?’ says the Lord.”  Jeremiah 5:28  We are called to willingly give charity–without active charity, a nation will be judged.

“An astonishing and horrible thing has been committed in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own power; And My people love to have it so.  But what will you do in the end?”  Jeremiah 5:30-31  Eternity always convicts.  Vanity, all is vanity.

“‘And like their bow they have bent their tongues for lies.  They are not valiant for the truth on the earth.  For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know Me,’ says the Lord.”  Jeremiah 9:3  Not being valiant for truth is a sign of not knowing God as much as we ought.

“Therefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, A wolf of the deserts shall destroy them; A leopard shall watch over their cities.”  Jeremiah 5:6  Dante’s Inferno (Peter read this for school)

“And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, ‘The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.'” Zephaniah 1:12  Deism:  “God does not act.”

“Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice.  Seek righteousness, seek humility.  It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord’s anger.”  Zephaniah 2:3  Message of hope–hidden in Christ

“For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language . . .”  The curse is reversed in the Kingdom.  “. . .That they all may call on name of the Lord, to serve Him with one accord.”  Zephaniah 3:9  with one accord means shoulder to shoulder

” . . . The daughters of My dispersed ones, shall bring My offering.  In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds in which you transgress against Me.” Zephaniah 3:10,11a (capitalized personal pronouns underlined) The Emphasis is on God

“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17  The Lamb is all the glory in Immanuel’s land (line from one of Peter’s favorite hymns: “The Sands of Time are Sinking”)  Message of hope
